Students Enter Video Contest

THE FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS in Kirby Chittenden’s class at Lake Hills Elementary School are
working on a music video to enter in a $25,000 Interactive Classroom Makeover Contest
sponsored by eInstruction of Denton, Texas.
The Lake Hills' students decided to produce a parody on a song by the Jonas’ Brothers.
The original song, “Burnin’ Up,” received new lyrics and a rap section created by the
class who titled it, “Learnin’ Up.” The instrumental tracks were created by Chittenden
on his keyboard workstation and the class recorded the digital vocal tracks and designed
many of the storyboards for the video project.

Lake Hills Supports Relay for Life

Our staff and students raised a record $368 for the Relay for Life
event at Lakeshore Middle School. The signature event for the
American Cancer Society allowed participants to walk the middle
school track during the 17-hour relay to help raise money and
awareness to continue the fight to cure cancer.
Students and staff purchased "feet" and luminaries
in honor and in memory of friends and family which symbolized
the hope and perseverance with which we all continue to fight. Thank you for your
generous giving.
Lake Hills Designated Green School

Lake Hills Elementary has received official designation as a Michigan
Green School in recognition of its environmentally-friendly activities.
In order to qualify as a "Michigan Green School", staff and
students must engage in at least 10 out of 25 environmentally
friendly activities including recycling materials, improving energy
efficiency and having educational programs on plant and animal
habitats.
It's estimated that by following the requirements, a school could
save at least 5% on its energy costs. It further helps to create
a culture of conservation within the schools and enables students
to educate others in their communities.
Lake Hills' students and staff received a Michigan Green School
flag and certificate which they will proudly display noting their
achievement in saving taxpayer dollars and protecting Michigan's
atural resources.
